ABOUT THE BUSINESS
Main Engineering is a locally based engineering and fabrication business servicing Proserpine and the wider Whitsunday region. We specialise in mechanical fabrication, equipment maintenance, and site-based installation projects across a range of industries including construction and infrastructure.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our team in Proserpine.
This role focuses on providing technical support to engineering and workshop operations, including testing, drafting, fabrication support, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
This is a hands-on, technician-level position, working under the direction of engineers and supervisors to support the delivery of mechanical projects.
SALARY & CONDITIONS
· Salary: $70,000 – $85,000 per year + superannuation
· Full-time permanent role
· Based in Proserpine, QLD (regional location)
· Workshop, site, and project-based work environment
IMPORTANT NOTE (ROLE CLASSIFICATION)
This position is classified as a Mechanical Engineering Technician (ANZSCO 312512). The role involves technical support, testing, drafting, and operational tasks, and does not include professional engineering design or certification responsibilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assist with the fabrication, assembly, and installation of mechanical systems and components
· Interpret engineering drawings and specifications for workshop and site application
· Conduct testing and inspection of mechanical equipment and fabricated items
· Record and report test results and assist in quality control processes
· Prepare and update CAD drawings, shop drawings, and technical documentation
· Assist in troubleshooting and maintaining machinery and mechanical systems
· Support project delivery including material estimation
· Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with safety standards and procedures
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
· Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
· Experience in a mechanical engineering, fabrication, or workshop environment
· Ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings
· Experience with CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD or similar)
· Strong practical and technical problem-solving skills
· Knowledge of mechanical systems, fabrication processes, and WHS requirements
